How to check an electrician

In most Nigerian houses the complaint is a socket that sparks, a room that trips the breaker, or a prepaid meter that will not hold. Ask the electrician to name the fault before any wire is opened. A careful person tests the supply, the breaker, and the affected point.

Ask whether the price includes cable, clips, a breaker, and the visit. In many towns a simple point repair is a visit fee plus materials, often in the range of ₦5,000 to ₦20,000 if no long run of cable is needed. A full flat rewire is a different job and should be a written list of points, not a verbal figure.

Ask them to show the distribution board and the earth. Do not pay the full amount before the points work and the breaker holds a load. If they cannot explain the fault in plain language, get a second person.
